I know firsthand what stigma feels like. It’s not always loud.
Sometimes, it’s the silence after a job interview.
The rejection email that never comes.
The subtle shift in someone’s eyes when they hear about your past.
Stigma doesn’t just bruise egos—it blocks progress. It appears like an invisible fence around every step a returned citizen tries to take.
At Revolutionary Reentry Hub, we’re here to say: no more.

Where Stigma Shows Up
Stigma is the root of so many barriers that returned citizens face, long after they’ve completed their sentence:
-
Housing: Applications are rejected simply because of a record, even when rent history and references are solid.
-
Employment: A background check often speaks louder than someone’s skills or growth.
-
Education: Schools can block enrollment based on past convictions, closing doors to advancement.
But stigma also shows up in places people might not expect:
-
Healthcare – where bias replaces proper treatment.
-
Family court – where parents must fight to prove they’re worthy.
-
Banking – where loans and credit are denied on assumption.
-
Faith spaces – where judgment overshadows healing.
-
Media – where returned citizens are shown as threats, not as whole people.
These are not isolated incidents—they’re part of a system of exclusion based on outdated narratives.
This Is Why We Tell Our Own Stories
At Revolutionary Reentry Hub, we believe in the power of transformational storytelling.
We launched the Transformational Narratives Campaign to:
-
Amplify voices of lived experience
-
Share stories that shatter stereotypes
-
Inspire empathy, shift public perception, and influence policy
Because when returned citizens tell their own stories, they don’t just rewrite their futures, they help reshape the entire system.
These aren’t sob stories. These are power moves—from prison yards to purpose-driven lives.
